FLOATING HISTORY

Floating was created at the turn of the 50s and 60s in the United States. Research on sensory deprivation was initiated by the American physician, neurologist and psychoanalyst John Cunningham Lilly. He created the prototype of the cabin, which was used to conduct research on the work of the brain devoid of stimuli. Initially, the cabin used for scientific purposes was called a sensory deprivation tank. In the late 1970s, Dr. Peter Suedfeld and Dr. Roderick Borrie of the University of British Columbia began investigating the benefits of using this technique. They introduced the name Terapi REST, i.e. Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy. It was one of the wives of the university researchers in 1979 that opened the first Floating Center in the world.
